Me and My Cancer - (performance/story telling piece)

Simon is working with Storyteller Philippa Tipper to tell his story from discovery to wellbeing in an informative and entertaining way. The aim of the performance is to shed some light on the patient’s experience, with people’s fear of talking about or dealing with cancer, issues around ill health and recovery.

Simon is an artist with a mission to develop and produce artwork and performances around the theme ‘Me and my cancer’ -a universal story to inform and educate audiences of all ages, taking Simons recent experiences of the ‘cancer journey’ and linking them with the classic themes of the “Hero’s Journey”.

In June 2006 Simon Tipping was diagnosed with ‘Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma’ and was forced to ‘deal with it’. He had to make many choices in a finite time. He chose to get informed about his cancer, tell people and keep friends, family and work colleagues in the picture. He made plans and reorganized his life before losing control of it to surgery, convalescence, radiotherapy and recovery.

This is a semi autobiographical / fantasy theatre performance abouts Simon's cancer experience (its still in development and there should be a rough/preview performance by September 2009).

An autobiography

Simon is about to start an autobiography project (written book form) in partnership with Haley Singlehurst a PhD student at The University of Northampton within The School of Health. Watch this space for more news.
